Starting one

Once your booking is paid, ask your guide's Barb for a group text ("can you set up a group chat for my crew?"). Your guide may start one too. Barb gives you a line to pass on:

Client: Can you set up a group chat for my crew?

Barb: Text JOIN 482193 and your name to (360) 555-0142 to join the group chat for Sam's Half Day Float on Jun 14 at 7:00 AM. Msg & data rates may apply. Terms: barbed.ai/sms-terms

Everyone joins by texting that line themselves, you included. Barb never adds a client, so everyone in it chose to be there. Your guide may be in the chat too. Barb can also email the line to the people you name, and the people you add to your trip with an email get it with the trip's details.

In the chat

  • What you text goes to everyone, with your name in front. Nobody sees anyone's number.
  • Start a message with Barb to ask about the trip.
  • LEAVE leaves the chat. As the one who booked, you can text REMOVE and a name to take someone out.
  • The chat closes two days after the trip, or right away if the booking is cancelled.

Client: Barb, where do we meet and what should we bring?

Barb: Barb: Meet at Varney Bridge fishing access at 6:45 AM. Bring layers, a rain jacket, and lunch.

On the site

Your trips shows your group chats' recent messages, and you can write to the group from there: everyone gets it by text, from you, as if you'd texted it. Group chats are by text, so sign in with (or add) your mobile number to see yours. Barb Outdoors' concierge can also answer questions about your group chats ("what did the group decide about lunch?"), from the messages that reached you.

Questions

Can someone add people for me?
The person who booked can add who's coming to the trip (your guide sees them, and they get the trip's details by email), but nobody is put into the chat: each person texts the join line themselves, so everyone in the chat chose to be there.

Still stuck? Ask Barb, or email [email protected].
